Strong first outing for Schoots at IRRC Hengelo

After a stressful number of weeks, past Thursday May 3rd the Kawasaki ZX10R of team Nadieh Schoots Racing was finally rebuilt... to make the trip to Hengelo for the first round of the IRRC season just 1 day later. Despite the lack of pre-season testing, the team was very excited to get the season underway!

Saturday saw two qualifying sessions on the schedule, and sadly the latter session did not quite go to plan. Issues with the electronics made it so the bike would stop running for a split second over and over, all around the course. After hours of searching the team located an opening in one of the ECU wires. Luckily this was easily solved, though the issue did cost a lot of time on track in Q2, which lead to Nadieh having to start Sunday’s races from 24th on the grid.

Race 1 went well; after a great start Nadieh went round better and better, and she ended up in 19th position. She improved 4 seconds on her laptime from qualifying, so the team was very happy! Back in the paddock Nadieh and crew chief Stefan compared data from her best laps to an old 1:46 lap, to figure out where she’d be able to gain the most time. As it turned out there were a couple of easy gains still, positive for race 2!

Opposite to the amazing start to race 1, race 2 was a nightmare. The bike refused to start on the grid, Nadieh waving frantically was not noticed by race direction meaning the start simply went ahead, and the entire team was afraid Nadieh would be hit as the rest of the field came past. Luckily this was not the case, and after a complete restart of the bike Nadieh stormed after the field full of adrenaline. With some beautiful overtake maneuvers (she passed 8 competitors just on lap 1) and a further improvement of 1.1 seconds in laptime, she managed to go from last (P33) to 18th position.

Nadieh: “To the outsider this weekend might not seem like a success for us, but my team and I are incredibly happy! Lapping at 1:53.2 within 4 sessions without any testing, 3.5 seconds faster than my PB from last year, that’s simply amazing! Especially considering the small issues with the bike. We are all very excited for the remainder of the IRRC season, as this weekend shows lots of promise. But first: onwards to the North West 200!”

Nadieh Schoots Racing would like to thank everyone for the support this weekend, online and in the paddock, with a special highlight for Front Row Components for advice on suspension setup, Jenik Performance for our beautiful engine, and of course all of our sponsors and Club of 50 members. From 13 through 19 May we will be in action at the North West 200, and the next round of IRRC takes place in Terlicko (Czech Republic) on 16-17 June.
